Child Care Centers

Offering inclusive activities in an engaging, multicultural atmosphere at two Five-Star Rated Childcare Centers

At the Irene Wortham Center, we believe that great things happen when children learn and grow in an engaging, inclusive atmosphere. That is what we see happening everyday at our Early Learning Center and the Community Child Care Center!

The Early Learning Center, a Certified Developmental Day Center, is Five-Star Rated by the North Carolina Division of Child Development. Our lead teachers hold North Carolina teaching certificates and/or degrees in Early Childhood Education or a related field. Our program features small class sizes and teacher-to-child ratios as low as 1:4.

Children aged six weeks to 5 years who are developing in a typical way learn and play beside children with developmental challenges in a multicultural setting. All children are offered a rich variety of activities within a curriculum that addresses school readiness, character development, and socialization. Each child receives the individualized support necessary to reach his or her potential. Art, stories, games, dramatic play, music, computers, and outdoor exercise are offered daily. Speech, occupational therapy, and physical therapy are provided as needed to all children, not only those with developmental disabilities or delays. Children are also encouraged to develop such values as honesty, caring, respect, tolerance, compassion, and responsibility.

Land of Sky Regional Council appoints Foster Grandparents, who provide loving attention to all the children on a regular basis.

The Community Child Care Center is located at 32 Compton Dr.  Irene Wortham Center took over management of this Center from Buncombe County on July 1, 2009.  We are excited to continue to provide the same high level of care and services to the children attending CCCC as we have provided for many years at the Early Learning Center. Continue to check in with us as we develop this program further and learn more about the children at CCCC.

Please call (828) 274-7518 if you have questions about the Early Learning Center or Community Child Care Center.

A small girl refuses to sit next to a child in a wheelchair. Mom is dismayed. She asks her daughter why she won’t sit next to that particular child.

The small girl replies, “Oh, Mom, he’s a boy!”
